This quote comes from a recent and disturbing article in the New York Times...
Recent studies suggest that talk therapy may be as good as or better than drugs in the treatment of depression, but fewer than half of depressed patients now get such therapy.
From Talk Doesn’t Pay, So Psychiatry Turns Instead to Drug Therapy
Honestly, you'd think we'd be beyond this by now, but it just keeps getting worse. I graduated from my Counseling Psych program in 1988 and even then people were saying, "It's the relationship that heals regardless of technique." This is hardly news. It's true in psychotherapy and it's even more true for grief support. No theories, no techniques, no scientific evidence trumps the human presence of someone willing to walk along side and listen.
