No mandatory bereavement leave in California

A bill passed by the legislature that would have required employers to give 3 days bereavement leave has  been vetoed by Gov. Schwarzenegger.

This is disgraceful, and it's another sign of how much we don't honor grief in our culture. Imagine any business not allowing 3 days off. I can't imagine it though I know it happens. I know people it's happened to and some have had to quit their jobs in order to have the time and space to grieve.

We've got to do better. People shouldn't have to quit their jobs in order to grieve.

Governor Schwarzenegger should be ashamed of himself as should all of the businesses who fought this.
