I picked up on this article because it talked about the limits to the stages of grief (to put it miidly) but it's so much more than that. What a great resource for parents who have lost a child. Every city shoud have this kind of program.
Many parents feel those of us who haven't lost a child can't possibly understand the impact. The article offers some great insight for those who want to understand...
“When your child dies, you die, and you become, very slowly, a different person,” said Lesley Jordans, the program’s director. “And that new identity hopefully has a new meaning.”
Well said!
If you've read How to Survive Your Grief you already know I am a huge advocate for grief support groups. The bottomline is that work better than anything else when it comes to grief.
Throughout this article, everyone quoted talks about how you can't go through this alone. I believe that's true for most grief but is especially true for the loss of a child. I don't think it's possible to heal from that kind of loss without ongoing support.
